Our Areas of Practice
Wilton and Associates are an experienced team of litigators, who have collectively appeared before every level of Court in Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada. We also routinely appear before numerous Ontario Professional Discipline and Administrative Law Tribunals. We have also acted successfully in numerous appeals.
Our areas of practice include:
- Commercial Litigation
- Professional Discipline
- Employment Law
- Partnership Disputes
- Property Disputes
- Police Misconduct
- Personal Injury
Our firm has extensive experience in defending professionals, including lawyers, dentists, physicians, psychologists and numerous other professionals in both malpractice and professional discipline matters.
Working For Dentists
A large component of our practice is acting for dentists in RCDS discipline and complaint matters, Section 75 investigations, employment law matters, Principal –Associates disputes, partnership disputes, and HPARB hearings. Matthew Wilton has appeared before the Discipline Committee of the RCDS on numerous occasions over the last several decades.
Defending Physicians and Lawyers
Our firm has been assisting physicians and Medical Clinics in respect of professional discipline cases, OHIP audits, malpractice, practice disputes, employment law and hospital privileges disputes, for the last 20 years. Our firm was successful in one of the lengthiest Hospital privileges hearings ever at HPARB, which resulted in our physician client winning back his Hospital privileges.
We act for lawyers on a regular basis before the Discipline Committee of the Law Society of Upper Canada, and at the Appeal Panel of the Law Society. In one case, we successfully argued that a Law Society Discipline Committee Hearing Panel had created a reasonable apprehension of bias in the manner in which they conducted our lawyer client’s discipline hearing.
